Your Housing Team is on the prowl looking for that next developer to assist us on our quest for affordable housing. Today, March 25, we gathered to hear the information from a group called Hacienda. Our initial information sharing discussions were quite positive.
With offices on Killingsworth in Portland, Hacienda is a nonprofit which has been in existence for 30+ years. It was begun in 1992 by two women who saw the multiple needs in the Latino community and it has progressed to be a multifaceted organization helping those in need. Their outreach is primarily in three areas – housing (rental and sale), youth and family resources, plus small business services. In their housing department, they currently have 11 properties in 911 units housing 2,400 residents. As you can see, they are experienced, created for all the right reasons, and looking to expand.
After an hour and a half conversation, with multiple questions answered and presentations made, many areas of mutual agreement were identified. As a result, Hacienda has agreed to put a proposal together for us to peruse at a future meeting. Keep reading your weekly and Epistle for the latest news. Any questions you have can be answered by one of your housing team members.
